Habitat

Nests in freshwater marshes. Winters in coastal saltmarshes.

Range

Very limited nesting grounds including at Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada. Two populations are found year-round in central Florida and Louisiana. In winter, they can be found in Texas (at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge) and along the Platte River in Nebraska with Sandhill Cranes.
