Habitat
Forages in marshes and agricultural fields but roosts on sheltered water such as at reservoirs or refuges.
Range
Breeds in the high Arctic. Migrates through central Canada and United States. In winter months, regularly found in California, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana, and sometimes found in neighboring states and northeastern Mexico.
Ross’s Geese can be confused with Snow Geese since they resemble one another and share habitat and breeding grounds. However, Ross’s Geese can be distinguished by their smaller size and stubby pink bill with a bluish-gray base. Also, their heads tend to remain pure white since they forage for plants at the surface of marshes whereas Snow Geese forage deeper in the ground for tubers which stains their heads yellow.
